I am taking air conditioning out of my car. I took the lid off the "heater box," can't think of a proper term, and removed the a/c evaporator. I was wondering if non a/c regals had a smaller box. As of right now I plan on sawing off the unused corner and bolting on an aluminum plate for more header clearance. Any non a/c underhood pictures, let me know.

I have a sheet steel plate from my ex-drag GN that I just removed as I am putting the HVAC back into it and making it into a street car again. PM me if interested - it is yours for the shipping.

(Let me tell you how fun it is to remove what was left of the interior portion of the box and then reinstall the new ones - all without removing the dash or pulling the engine!)

Thanks for the offer, but I want to keep the heater core in place, I just want to make the box itself as small as possible so I can get to the header bolts and plugs easier, and I am making aluminum valve covers which I want clearance for.

They made a factory non ac box. very hard to find. I installed one on my car.

i got mine from brian at gbody parts he still has some its the full ac delete box

Removing that pile of garbage from the firewall is one of the best things I've done to my car. It's SO much easier to work on now you wouldn't believe.
I made the firewall plate myself, and replaced the AC compressor with a GM idler pulley.

You've got too nice of a car to cut it up like that, do it with the AC on it. That's what I did, I can't go without it

The wiper tray in my was made out of sheet steel...I may still have it lying around. PM me if interested and I will look around for it.

btw, Trbobuick, your car is insane, I bow to you. I'll have to post some pics of my honda 400ex that I turbocharged. What can't you do with a tig welder and a portaband?

All the welding was done by Mark at advanced power sports. The only thing i have ever welded was my wallet after this car build.

Warning! Do not attempt to remove the heater box just to install a GM non a/c one. It is the same god damn size. If only I could turn back time... I just ordered the summit one, we'll see how that fits. At least then I will have some header clearance. By the way, removing the dashboard was by far the most difficult task I have tackled on my car thus far. And I have done everything front to rear.

Anyone want to buy a gm non a/c heater box?

"Do you know what this means? It means this damn thing doesn't work at all!!"

I like the drip tray idea and the Summit deal, but its $100 for the drip tray. I think its time to fab up a delete plate/drip tray all in one. I think I have the guy who can do this for about $150 total.

I keep going back and forth on this issue but

Yullose, you are in Pa, how has it been without the heater?
