I want to take the motor out of my 87 Buick Regal T type. I was wanting to just get some advice for doing this job from someone with experience.

I just pulled mine and it was very easy. First start taking off all the accesories like the A/C pump, PS pump, alternator, intercooler, turbo, headers, DP, basically everything exept the front timing case. I took off my upper and lower intake before i pulled it and hooked the hoist into the head bolts. LABEL EVERYTHING!!!!. To dissconnect the tranny you can get to the top two bolts with a regular i think it was 9/16" wrench after removing the coils. The rest can be reached under the car with an extension about 3-4 feet long with a swivel or thoes extensions that have like a few degree of deflection and put a few together. The bottom ones are self explainitory. Im trying to think what else is trickey...... oh! Its easier to pull the motor out with the hood shocks disconnected and someone or something holding the hood all the way up. Make sure all your grounds are off. Theres a few on the back of the intake and i had one on the front head. Label everything and make sure your battery is dissconected and just to be carefull the fuse on the FP. Hope this helps a little.

My opinion: pull the IC, remove the A/C compressor and hang it off to the side, same for the P/S pump. Remove the cross-over pipe, but leave the headers and turbo on. Leave the intake on. All that stuff is easier to remove or replace on the engine stand. Disconnect the fuel lines at the frame (under the air cleaner) and pull them out with the engine. Disconnect your battery-to-alternator and starter wires (don't forget to remove the positive cable from the bottom of the front cover.) You can disconnect the ground wires on the back of the PS head once you lift the motor a bit. Use a really long extension with a universal 9/16 socket to remove the bellhousing bolts. Of course, you'll need a floor jack under the tranny until you can support it with a rope or crossbar.

Just go slow and it's really a pretty easy engine to pull. There's nothing that says it can't hang on the chain while you remove a wire or something you missed.
