I am purchasing a Max Effort chip which ignors the O2. My question is, can I completely remove the O2 sensor and put my EGT prob in that location.

sure, if you can find some way to adapt an egt probe to the 02 threads.....better yet, just leave the 02 in there and mount the egt probe on the opposite side of the uppipe where you can get to it......only takes a 1/8 hole

Ok, I can make an adaptor, thats not a problem...I was just concerned if the car was going to flash the check engine light if I removed the O2 completely. Also, If I mount the EGT probe in the O2 location, will that give me a good enough reading to go by?

OK, THANKS. The reason I won't be using both is because Max Efffort chip ignors the O2 sensor.

Replace 02 w/egt?

CS99,

Go to local hardware and get a pipe plug that fits 02 hole then drill hole in plug for egt probe that way you can always go back to stock.

I had the same transition a while ago. I left the O2 in and bought an EGT gauge and probe set from SMC. It installed in about 10 min. I put the probe 90 degrees from my O2 sensor. Keep the O2 in place as it comes in handy for setting the cruising fuel.

ok. So does the Max Effort chip use the O2 sensor or not. The way I understood it, it is always in open loop.

the ME does not use the 02 at all (at WOT, no chips use the 02....)
but, you can still use the readings from the 02 as a tuning aid in conjunction with an egt, knock, whatever.....

if you do not plan on using leaded fuel, you definitely want to maintain your 02
