I think i may have the infamous cracked header on driver's side as my turbo seems to spool very lazily. i eventually will experience the full boost potential of my stock 86 t-type (around 14 psi) but it just seems that at a stop when i go full throttle it just takes to long for it to spool and doesn't seem to break the tires loose any more. kinda lack-luster performance. Has any one tried the Atr replacement header or Postons driver side header. I also see that Jack Cotton sells a replacement. is the one he sells a repaired stock unit or is it aftermarket? Its either go this route or find someone to repair it. I also notice that my current exhaust system on car is in terrible shape/rusting out, and i believe that the original cat is still on car (63k orig miles). could the cat be partially blocked and contributing to poor spool-up as well?

I installed a new Poston set on my engine. Both sides cracked after 3 years (warranty is one year). Do yourself a favor and have your hedder repaired. It will save you lots of money in the long run. Also, if the hedder is properly welded, it will not crack again. I'm putting stock hedders back on my engine. Soon the Poston hedders will be welded and sold.

Hi GofsBuick, do you happen to know who repairs these headers?
Maybe someone i can ship them to. I live in massachusettes and have heard that cotton's may repair them. I'd have to call him. he's just so far away from me. I'm on coast, he's way inland.

I got a repaired drivers side header from board member BWeavy.

header repair

1st off I have a set of headers from poston that are 4th owners they are still like new. I believe like this. Some people think hypereutectic pistons suck & will only run forged. But truth be told a forged piston is like a bullet proof vest. The bullet is stopped but the internal damage is still evident. If you beat on a hyper type piston & detonate it then it will falll apart. If you beat on a forged it will hold up but what kind of damage is done deeper down inside the bottom end. The same goes for headers. I have about 5 friends that have turbo buicks. Each one has taught me new things about these cars. Exhaust gas temps ruin manifolds, headers, etc. It does not matter how great of a header you have EGT over 1550-2000 degree will kill them. By the way arizona gn repairs headers. good luck Take care of your car if you beat on it.
