Hey guys,

As the subject implies, I'm wondering if it's a big no-no to reuse the stock rod bolts. Let me know

thanks
Dan

Like you thought, re-using rod bolts is right up there with re-using toilet paper...don't do it, even hammered :D

The SPS rod bolt is a high quality piece. There is nothing wrong by reusing them unless they are damaged. I still run stock rod bolts in my TSM car(3 seasons, consistent 10ohs) and my street car. Im worried bout the crank way more than ill ever be about the rod bolts. I know of several cars that run the stockers with no issues.

You also have to resize the rods if you get them, too much money for an unnecessary part IMO.

I don't run 10.0s but I have a couple rebuilds and 262,000 miles on my rod bolts. I think, "proof is in the pudding". ;)

I thought the rod bolts are torque to yeild...

Any manual, book, or source will advise replacing any TTY fastener.

I got the ARPs from Jegs 69.99

The rod bolts are not TTY. If you put the ARPs in, the rod must be spot faced as the ARPs won't sit perfectly flat otherwise and the rod won't stay round. I would re-use the stockers unless the rod or bolt was damaged.

Thanks guys,
After hearing from all of you and talking to my machinest I have just decided to re-use the stock rod bolts. Since my car is not a high horsepower TR, the stockers should be fine for me. They appear to be fine, and I don't want to have to spend more money to have my rods resized. Thanks for all of the help

Dan
