This is for the high performance guys. I just got my T-type on the road after three years of restoration. I did alot of work to the engine, CNC heads, cam, T63E, ATR front mount, etc. Hear is the problem, if I boost the engine the temp spikes, HARD. I drove it for seven miles no boost temp went to 190. As soon as I boosted the temp climbed and climbed. I have a 160 stat, flow cooler coolant pump, and am running Evans NPG for coolant. I already removed the heads thinking head gaskets, they were ok. I also tried a shorter belt ( maybe slipping) no better. Help!! Thanks in advance. :(

Make sure your fan is working properly. I just ditched my stock fan in favor of the Ramchargers duals. I hadn't realized it, but the stock fan had deteriorated over time and must not have been working too well. It ran all the time but the car ran very hot - similar to yours. Cruising down a hill or constant speed on the highway was fine, but as soon as I got on it it would get hot. Once it was hot it would be very difficult to get it to go back down to a reasonable temp.

I thought it was my .040 overbore, but after I put the Ramchargers fans in it stays at 165 most of the time. It gets hot when I get on it but gets right back down to 165 quickly.

HTH,
Jim

Yea I checked that even made a modification to make the fan run on high constantly. Car almost seems like it is getting an air pocket in the cooling system. The upper hose is hot and the lower one is cold.:(

190 is not too bad, all front mount cars run hot with a stock fan, depends on the temp outside. I run 172 degrees with the a/c on, but i have two derale fans consuming mountains of power. Get the ramchargers fan setup and you should be ok.

High fan doesn't help if the fan is worn out and it's not spinning as fast as it used to. Mine would get hot enough to trigger the high speed fan but it never seemed to cool it off.

Something doesn't seem right, since you're saying the temp spikes hard. How is the car at idle? Do you see the temp drop when the thermostat first opens up? If the thermostat is working ok I'd look at some kind of bottleneck for when the flow increases at high rpms. Can you reproduce the temp spike by revving the car up in park? I'd look at the water pump, or even radiator. See if any of the lines are constricted or anthing. Even when my car was running hot before the new radiator, fans, and distilled water, I never saw the temp spike with boost. It was always gradual. It would get up to 205-210 on hotter days after getting on it. I'd also check for the air pocket by opening the cap while running and squeezing the hoses and see if any air escapes. Not sure if flushing the system helps get rid of air pockets or not.

This is what I meant by "spike" - it will shoot up quicker than it will come down when I get on it. It's not an immediate spike, but it's a quick climb in temp that takes a few mins to recover from.

I tested the t-stat out of the vehicle in water and with a thermometer it opened at 165. You can watch the t-stat open with scan tool. Idleing at 180-190. I just put a lower hose on it I'll post the results, BTW the rad and pump are both new. Phil:(

Sometimes the scanmaster readings are not correct, mine are usually 10 degrees hotter then normal.

Either get a new sender or new gauge

I would look into the bottom hose being cold and the top hose being hot. How many psi cap do you have?

It is a 4lb. cap, that is what is supposed to be used with the Evans coolant.

Just pulled the Flow Cooler water pump off, and found it to be a quarter of an inch from the timing cover. Put on the stock pump trying results this weekend. Also ordered a RC fan setup. Let you know results.:(

Installed a different coolant pump and put on the RC fans. Alot cooler at idle until I boost then it climbs because of an air pocket. I block tested it but came up with no positive results. I guess the next step is to get the block to a machine shop to see if their is a crack opening up under pressure(boost). I bought the block elsewhere "already done". :(

Sorry you haven't found the problem yet. Looks like you've done all the usual stuff. I wouldn't know what else to look for, but your symptoms didn't look typical from my experience.

Let us know what you find. Out cruising today my temp barely changed from 175 or so, at idle, boost, whatever.
