Hey folks,

A recent rollbar install left some pretty good size holes between the bar and the body where it passes through to connect to the frame. I want to seal these holes to keep water out, but want to do so in a way that doesn't introduce more rattles.

Can anyone recommend any good sealants? I imagine the trick will be finding something that bonds to the body and bar, but isn't so brittle it will separate with vibration.

Thanks.
Scott

Go to the hardware store and get some bathtub caulking. Your choice of colors!:)

BASEMENT WALL SEALER!! it's gray and stays plyable. good for 50 + years:D

Thanks guys, also had a suggestion for the expanding foam goop.

Keep em coming.

You'll want to use something that always stays pliable.
Silicone caulk, the basement wall sealer, body seam sealer etc or anything similar. Just make sure it stays flexible when dry.

I wouldn't suggest the expanding foam. It will hold water and when completely dry is farly brittle and formable.

Use something to support whaqt ever you use (foam rope, duct tape) and help fill the hole so the caulk doesn't fall through.

A good use for the foam sealer is INSIDE the rollbar... it deadens the "ringing" and the transmitted bearing noises from the chassis.

Just don't let it get really close to anywhere you are going to weld (it'll smoke like crazy!)

What do you think about putting the foam in after the cage is already in the car? That is a great idea, but I need to figure out how to get it up into the bars... hmmmmm...

welp..you could make up some rubber boots..cuz the body is gunna move around...get you some flat rubber about .080 thick..cut some "gaskets" and punch whatever size roll bar size hole in it(you can sharpen a scrap peice of roll bar on the inside and hammer on wood to do so)...cut a slit and cover your hole...now get some aluminum sheet and make a retianing ring for the gasket..cut out the center and install ...bathtub calking? later joe:cool:
