This is info for those that do not know one of the effects of a worn or wrong u-Joint on our cars, and the transmission damage that can result:
I was launching the car at 13-15 lbs using a stageright TB. Broke the rear U-Joint on launch. Got the driveshaft fixed insuring they used solid (non-greasable u-Joints). Installed drivshaft. Put car in drive and trans would go into gear, but would not go forward, but it would go in reverse.
Pulled trans and my local trans guy and I tore it down tonight. Found that the Lo-Reverse sprag had exploded and took out all gears and components directly attached. All other parts looked good.
Conclusion:
We feel that when the u-joint let go, the driveshaft flopping around caused the sprag explosion and surrounding damage.
Pretty quick, but expensive lesson and fix.
