still have smoking issue new motor everything fresh and new turbo problem is smoke on start up cold a huge puff of smoke then if i shut off then restart no smoke i can keep doing that with the same results but if i let it sit for more than 3 minutes and start it it will make a huge cloud of smoke also when i tap the gas it smokes very slightly. wouldnt this be valve seals could they have popped off? oil is draining fast to smoke after 3 minutes of letting sit

pop off a valve cover and see if they put the seals on top of the valves. You have something leaking for sure, also try taking off the pcv valve for a min and try it. Other than that I would say look at the turbo good. Is the car running good? Could also be a intake leak Daniel Ray

Sounds like it could be a turbo exhaust seal...
turbo would smoke after warmed up i dont think a turbo would smoke cold because the downpipe is not hot enough

I would agree with Daniel. Pull the valve cover and see if the seals are even there. Doubt they would have broke off, but maybe come loose and floating on the valve insead of stuck on the guide?

Doubt it would be the Turbo, or the smoke would be continuous and quite heavy.

pulled the valve covers and they are there but its hard to see if there off they look like they are on but i had to take the rocker shafts to see better. it does smoke when u tap the gas but very very little.

How are the exhaust valve guide clearances?

Pull the plenum. See if its wet with oil. That should be the first place you start.

If its not going through the motor then I would say the turbo. No?
brand new ta49 the down pipe is dry as well as the outlet but you never know i dont understand why it smokes when i shut down for 3 minutes then restart

The plugs are showing no signs of oil and neither is the down pipe.
Mabye it not oil thats burning. Might do a compression check.
Just a thought. Good Luck.

smells like oil and looks like oil compression shows 140 +- 3

Gotcha. If all the plugs look good the only other thing is the turbo.
Thats wierd that if it sits a few it smokes. Like somehow oil leaking in as it sits.

How many miles you put on this so far?

Have you cheched the turbo for play?

What kind of oiling system on the turbo. Remote filter?
