My wife has agreed to let me buy an LS-1 Maf, translator, and cold air kit. I'm excited :D Could you please tell me which one you'd choose and why. Also, could you give me some info on the cold air kits that are avaliable out there? Let me know the advantages and/or dissadvantages of the one in which you're familar. I'd prefer to buy one that is either polished aluminum or chrome. Do I need a housing for a the LS-1 Maf? What do I ask for at the parts store? All of these questions are coming from a Ford guy so keep it simple please. :p

Take a field trip

About 45 minutes away from you is Postons in Atmore AL. Anytime I'm up in Pensacola, (my home town), I always go up to Atmore to see what's new in his warehouse. It would probably be a good chance to get your hands on some stuff and look it over real close. - BB

Postons has this setup? Also, can you tell me the address to Postons? I couldn't find it on their webpage.

Thanks,

James

I got my Translator setup from Ramchargers (888) 293-7267. If you can afford it , get the LS1 3.5" maf, translator plus and the extender chip for your combo. You won't reget it at all. Also I have the Tin Man cold air kit , and I'm happy with that also. Do a search, it's a lot info out there on both. :)

Thanks for the info. So if I want a 3.5" (LS-1) sensor, I need the +?

Thanks,

James

Postons is on main street in Atmore, don't bother asking directions from the locals, they did not even know it was there.

Old building looks abandoned, no sign, lots of cool stufff inside.

I just happened to see a glass GN hood next to the open door.
You do not need a + unit for the LS1 MAF

Translator Plus

Might as well make the best of it while you can. Translator Plus version adds adjustment for timing so you have both a street and race chip in one chip.

Also, go for the Extender chip. It has some nice features.

With 3.5" sensor you will need a 3 to 3.5" adapter hose. Can purchase from Ramchargers.

With a 3.5" intake tube, adapter shouldn't be necessary on the MAF side. However, not familiar with 3.5" intake tubes. Do they taper back down to 3" at the turbo? If not, still need an adapter.

By the way, don't forget about your filter. I have seen cars with the 3.5" sensors connected directly to the filter. Guessing the filters have a 3.5" opening. Anybody with details, please advise.

K&N has 3.5" filters (RE920 I think)
and 4" filters (RE870 I think)

both will work, I use the 4" because it will fit the 3.5", 3.75", and 4" sensors. On the 3.5" sensor the larger filter tightens down smoothly and makes an nice little "velocity stack"....

Ramchargers, summit, others carry these.

No factory app. You use the LS1 sensor and 4" billet ends.

A 4" filter, 4" sensor, 4" MAF pipe, big turbo....... :) (A friends setup, not mine)
