If anyone would be so kind to go out to thier car, check the last 6 digits, then check the door decal and find the month the car was built i would appreciate it.

Im looking to find the month my car was purchased, my last 6 digits are 448***

If we could ballpark it from 445*** to 449*** and get the months they were built it would help me out.

The month it was built would be on the GVWR decal on the drivers side door
See pic
My white car is 408093 and was built 9-86
I dont know of any other way to do it...
Thanks
BW

And I failed to mention there is a build date on your frame that is easy to find if you want to do some scraping to read it. Back on the rear crossmember there is the frame code and a build date. Look on the rear face of the crossmember up by where the upper control arrm mounts. On my 86 GN all I had to do was spray some carb cleaner to get the factory cosmilene off. I've posted a picture of an 83 T-Type frame showing the numbers on it. I sand blasted the frame and thats how I found that GM stamped some numbers there.

My car's serial # ends with 448062. I dunno if this can be of any help, but I think it was built sometime between May '87 ( date on the coil pack) and June '87 ( date on the sticker on the driver's door)...so I'm not 100% sure when it rolled out of the assembly plant...
Claude :)

thanks for the info. does these numbers mean it is the 436,835th regal made in 1987? thanks again, Chris

There is a build date on your cowl tag. IIRC it is in code on the upper left corner.

using that code i found out that my car was built in the third week of july of 1987 those july bussines days would be the 20th-24th

mine is as follows H07C

H=1987 07= july C= third week

You disregard the first 4 in the number, it precededs all the Regal VIN ID's, yours is the 36,386th car.

So, my 408093 white limited was the 8093 car made, but it was made 9-86...

What month did they start the 87 line? Jesus they were cranking these cars out

I checked my grey car, i swear the cowl tag shows H08E vin is 405966

H would be the model year, so mine was made 5th week of august 1986?

My blue car is H06C so third week of june right?

I wanted to say thank you to turbofish38 for pointing out the cowl tag info, do you have a link that will break down the other numbers on the cowl tag...
I know the 31u 31L is the color, but also on the RPO sticker on the declid the bottom number is the actual color the car was painted.

Thank you for that awesome info, i had no idea :)

Thanks

Body Number Plate

The body number plate identifies the model year, car division, series, style, body assembly plant, body number, trim combination, modular seat code, paint code, and date build code. This plate is located on the upper horizontal surface of the shroud on the B and G (3.8l Turbo) series or on the upper radiator support assembly on A, C, E, H, J and N series.

Here's a cowl tag thread from awhile back: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176864&highlight=cowl

If you need some more dechipering post your codes here and I'll kook them up for you.

It varied from model year to model year. If you use my 83 T-Type picture as an example you can see the build date on the frame says 7-20-82 and this came from under an 83 and the build date on the door matched so you can see Buick was cranking out 83 Regals in the month of July. Right now as I'm writing this there are some 07 models in the rental car fleets so I would venture to say that on average the new model year for carry over models seems to be the month of July. I once owned a 85 MCSS and I purchased it brand new in Sept of 84. Its VIN ended with 100048 and it was supposed to have been one of the first black MCSS built so again I'm speculating July. I've been gathering as much information as I can from SPID labels and build sheets and about the only thing significant I have found is in a couple of early build 1986's. Instead of the VIN sequence starting with 400,000 they start at 200,000. In 84 and 85 TR's were built in both Flint MI and Pontiac MI and most if not all of the Flint cars have the VIN sequence in 200,000. 86 and 87's were only built in Pontiac. The big mystery to me is why do these cars have the Flint sequence but were built in Pontiac? They are also more like the 85's in that the SPID labels have a couple of codes that are only seen on the 84 and 85 labels. None of the 86 cars built with the 400,000 sequence have these codes. I've heard some strange rumors and myths over the years and these early build 86's have got me to thinking that those just may be facts now. And BTW, I've been pestering Buick for years with reguards to giving me access to this information. They have denied my requests. I can only hope someday. For now all I have is about 100 or so SPID labels and I'm left with doing all of the legwork in dechipering them.
