Spark retard with out knock?

I put in a V4 intercooler over the weekend, turned down the boost a couple notches and went for a test drive. A couple of times on the directscan readings I noticed it was pulling a couple of degrees of timing but there was never any knock count. Could this be because DS just didnt catch the knock condition? Thought it was a little strange.
