What is stage 1 and stage 2 and witch should I try to build for a low 10 second car

Stage I and Stage II blocks are made from the same casting, but the Stage II is stronger because it has better main caps (4-bolt compared to 2-bolt)....... The cost to build both a Stage I and Stage II is the same when we're talking aftermarket cranks and rods so you are better of building a Stage II because it is stronger, however, for low 10's a Stage I is plenty strong enough (they have been shown to support about 750-800hp in 2-bolt main form and have even supported 1200hp when converted to 4-bolt main configuration)..... Hell, depending on how much your car weighs and how much you race you could easily go low 10's with a well built stock block especially if you girdle it and go with the two center steel main caps (# 2 and 3)......
