i have 2 in the crate virgin buick stage 1 blocks the casting #'s are 25500004 then a large #5/6 on both-i was told these were prototype blocks -does ne one know? they are in the factory cosmiline the are WAY thicker that the 009 blocks and have splayed caps w/them i want to sell one but need 2 know what it is first! you can see a pic of it @ www.ryanfoxmosley.com any help appreiciated!!!!!!!!!

ummm thanks for your input-that is called cosmiline it is sprayed on the blocks from the factory to prevent rust....thanks though:)

It looks like cosmoline to me too. I've had to clean it off a couple of rifles and that's how it looked. Some CLR Breakfree works great on it.

You might post this question in the stage II forum as well, since that's where the real experts on that stuff hang out. So far as I know the stage I blocks were all set up with two bolt maincaps from Buick - that's one of the big differences between stage I and stage II's, which got at least some 4 bolt caps (and all 6 bolt caps at the end).

thanks guys-you r right-it has 2 bolt caps on it now but i got sets of 4 bolt caps w/ them. i am gonna try to find out more thanks 4 your help!u know what these are worth? maybe a guess?thanks!-ryan

why did i know you would post that?-we r heading 2 angleton to run you going or does the wife have you on "lock down"lol....

I've seen cosmoline on firearms, and military hardware. Never know GM to use it, though. I guess it could have gotten on there after it left GM? Or maybe they were boxed up for export. Seems to me it is used mostly on things that are transported by ocean, like Hyundais and Russian rifles.

from what we have found and heard i dont think so ithink those were the ones that were not setup for a roller lifter????
