Steel vacumn lines

Has anyone taken the steel vac lines from the throttle body and used just hose? Any down side to doing this?

the one on my regulator developed a crack, so I just used hose....works fine

hose works fine. They use the steel to "tighten" up everything so there aren't just hose going every where.
