I know I've seen this but can't seem to find the info with a search
...the stocks rods have 2 raised dots on the beam...does this indicate which way the rod should be oriented in the engine when installed...seem to remember that the dots face the front of the engine...also when marking the rods with a steel stamp does it matter which side...I usually mark them on the side(flat part) putting a mark(number) on each side of the parting line between rod and cap...I read some article the other day that said to mark the rods on the inbound side of the rod...not the side towards the pan rail...didn't really make sense to me...why does it matter

Drivers Side/left bank/Cyl #1 , #3 , #5 - dots face rear of engine

Passenger Side /right bank/Cyl #2 , #4, #6 - dots face towards front of engine .

Dont use a stamp it can change the shape of the rod. Use a engraver instead.

Hmmm...never heard that one before...everything I've read in service manuals...etc or have seen on TV they use a stamp to mark the rods...have always done it that way and never had any problems...don't see how an 1/8" stamp can change the shape of the rod...maybe if you used a sledge hammer...but just tapping a steel stamp with a small hammer shouldn't do anything...
