would a dirty or clogged 9" k&n cone filter cause the car to surge under boost? i have never cleaned this filter since installation. probably been on the car for a year or so.
no alky joe lubrant 93 chip, blue tops, 160 therm, stock intercooler, 980 valve springs, double roller chain, adj reg, walbro 307, 9"kn, everything else stock. what do i need to do for a signature that you are talking about.
First thing I would look at is fuel preassure. You need to run a gauge where you can watch it under load. I use a my test gauge and run it up to the windshield by the wipers. Then go for a ride. For every 1 pound of boost you need 2 pounds of FP.
i have a fuel press gauge that i can do this with, i did that b-4 i installed the new inj, but have not checked it since. i also have an egr issue, my ses light is coming on (egr code) at idle and goes out at wot. could this cause the surging(feels like compressor surge, but my car shouldnt be doing that).
I would say the surrging is either FP or MAF sensor going bad. Check MAF screen.
You can stick your fingers under the EGR plunger to see if it is moving freely.
My guess is that the your EGR is stuck. You can feel the diafram with your finger tips under the EGR housing. You simply want to push it with your finger up into the housing. I bet it's stuck.
i do not have a scantool, my buddy has 1, i can check it out with his soon. what do i need to look for on scantool. where exactly is the egr valve located? i always thought that you should be getting 1lb of fp for every lb of boost, so if you set fp @ 42 with vac line off, at 15 lbs of boost you should have 57 lbs of fp. is this not correct?
If fuel preassure checks out, watch you MAF#s when condition shows up.
Look for eratic readings.(number jumping around) Check the screen inside the MAF to see if it has come loose.
my stock maf went bad some time ago, got 1 from **** club that never was rite, got 1 from harper racing out of florida, seems to be better, but car still runs a little rough until warmed up. i probably need to go with the translator setup , just haven't done that yet.
my buddy runs that same setup, and he has no problems either, i need to get the solid maf pipe so i can change to that setup as well. i still have the old dryer hose fac equip. on mine, i had the timing chain , valve springs, and inj installed about a month ago. car runs better, but now has develeped that surging, and i cannot turn the boost up past 13lbs without getting audible knock. the 13lbs of boost feels stronger than the 16 to 17lbs b-4 i had work done.
Wow, you should be able to get more boost. Did you get a new chip for the new injectors? Sounding more and more like the MAF sensor. Get that scan tool and take a look at the MAF#. Range is between 0-255. At idle it should be around 5-6. Also TPS set @ .42. IAC between 10-20 with warm motor at idle in park.Good luck.
drove car today, fuel press checked out ok . did get that surging or more like a shudder. when i accelerate hard it shudders, noticed the fuel press went up just like it did under normal boost conditions, but car started shuddering, could this be something to do with the torque conv, or transmission. i have stock trans and tc.
the shudder is @ part throttle B-4 boost comes in, plugs are new , wires have a little age, ign module & coil pack have been changed within last 2 yrs.i am getting a code 32 which is egr, this may be causing it, but without a scantool who noes
no it doesnt go away, if i press accelerator more while car is doing this, it just keeps shuddering until i let off, kinda scary, but its not knocking while doing this. feels like it has no power when it does it, shuts power down. i was thinking that it could have something to do with the tc or tranny, but probably not likely i suppose.
