I've been having this problem for a couple of months now. It's very inconsistant and usually occurs at 5~8psi, engine surges, knock guage lights up and I get out it. Seems to happen more with the engine warm, part or wot.
I can also hear the knock sometimes, so it's real. My fp rises as it should, SM shows low 800mv. I just replaced the maf, that wasn't the issue. Will a bad ignition module or coil give me knock retard? The coilpack did ohm out ok.
My 87 gn is basicly stock with a thrasher 92, adj fpr, k&n, 340 fuel pump, SM & guages. TIA shane
