Picked up 2+ PSI of boost without touching anything else. WooHoo! It's just amazing how much the air inlet restriction affects turbos.

Car will be on the dyno at Freestyle motorsports next weekend at the g-s-c-a club meet.

Where did you get this at and what componets are needed to be in place for this 85mm MAF to work. That is a nice amount of power that you got, from the bigger MAF.
Chuck

I use a translator plus and an extender chip from Full Throttle, an 85mm GM MAF sensor for GM truck / ZO6 corvette / LS2 anything, an 85mm sensor adapter pigtail from Casper's, and the intake ducting is mostly from buickgn.com. This setup works really smooth. Great idle and driveability and really low restriction.

We have the sensors and harness adaptors. The 3.5" LS1 units give about the same gains
Mike

Yeah, freeing up flow on the inlet side of any compressor really increases flow. On my 99 cobra, when I had the Novi 1000, I picked up 1.5psi by installing a 4" Anderson Ford Motorsports ceramic coated inlet tube. A big gain considering I was only running 11 psi before. Compressors of all types love a free flowing inlet. On the GN, the 3.5" intake tube from buickgn.com gained me about 2psi, when I was only running 14psi... and I already had the 3.5" MAF on it. Did you change the MAF and intake tube at the same time, or just the MAF? Cause the tube by itself really frees things up. Its not the prettiest tube around, but it does work well.
So the late model LS2 MAF has the same electronic signal as the LS1...meaning the translator can make sense of it with no other mods?
85mm equals 3.35 inches. My MAF measures about 3.6" ID on the inlet. Where on the MAF does yours measure 85mm? Maybe I have an 85mm MAF, but it all just depends where you measure it. My MAF only works right with the translator set on 3" MAF. I would think the "3.5" MAF would flow more, but maybe the later model MAF has a cleaner signal?

I'm still using the same 3" tube, I just stuck a coupling on the end to neck down from the MAF. Definitely could be better.

The "85mm MAF" measures 94mm (almost 3.75") on the inlet screen side and 89mm (~3.5") on the outlet side. It appears to be made cheaper than the LT1 or LS1, because the outlet side is all molded plastic. That's one way to tell it apart from it's aluminum cousins.

I *think* all the newer style MAF's like LT1, LS1 and 85mm use a pulse width modulated output signal, and various part numbers of each flavor have slightly different calibrations. The one I have seems to work very well. P/N 25168491. But I believe it is not the one recommended by Mike. The Trans + has 85mm std, rich, and lean settings on the MAF base dial. I'm using 85mm rich idle. (pot 7) But as you have found out, the other settings may work well too.

Steve, looks like you have some good experience with the 85mm MAF.
Not sure but, I have a translator V6.XX , and tried settings on 3" stock/10%rich, 3.5" stock/ 10% rich, 85mm stock/ 10% rich and get a code 34 each time after about 5-10 seconds.
Have the pigtail, and filter is about 12" upstream, on a cold air kit.

So, put my old 3" maf back on, translator to 3" std, no code.
Back to the larger 85mm MAF, code 34.

Any suggestions home to make this work?

I have EXACTLY the same problem with the 4" Mega-MAF and a GenII Translator. I will try and solve it early next week, when I can take the time to call Mike or Bob. (been busting my keester remodeling my house over the last three+ months.) I can get back to the "good stuff" next week. I also have another project that will get my attention, too.;)

Well,
I "think" i figured it out.

The signal and battery wire were switched on the pigtail.
Like I said before; You have to question EVERYTHING when you work on these cars.
Hope it helps someone.

As a bonus, these guys have a NICE harness, with the IAT connection on it.

Thanks for the link Jerryl.
I asked Mike for the very info you posted, and couldn't get it. I'll spend some time this weekend and check the pin-out of the adaptor harness. I suspected the harness all along. I have checked the wiring and splices more than 5 times. I even checked the continuity across the splices and to and from the MAF plug all the way to the translaltor. I asked for a simple pin-out for the Translator and the adaptor harness. Mike didn't post it. I am a little disappointed with that. I was told to call him and he works only till 3:00pm and I am at work the whole time he is there. I took a half day off to talk with him, and he had taken a day off. (everyone needs a day off) I would really have prefered to have the pin-outs posted so I could check them myself when I am in the shop. I couldn't have answered questions if I called him from work. Being on the "left coast", it can intefere with east coast and mid west business schedules. Thanks again for the info.

Ken,
Did you conclude the wires on your harness to be incorrect?

I actually took the day off to figure this out.
Called the LSxTune guys who were real helpfull in explaning how to swtich the wires around (after I told him I did not purchase any of the items from them)

Following the trouble shooting;
I always wanted to use the IAT as well, so, I may purchase the connections and add them to the pigtail.

I am sure you project will turn out fine.
You do KILLER work!
