i was looking at Precisions website cause i am looking into getting some 36-38lb injectors and a TA49 turbo. it says the ta49 has a minimum stall of 2,600rpm.
how many out there are running a similar setup with the stock converter? how is spool up time?

at 49 and some injectors are a drop in. Once installed tune for the new turbo. I will caution you though, the smile on your face along with the tire smoke will be addicting. You may need tires and such to hook. The 49 works very well with stock stuff and an injector upgrade. I would however make sure you have a good tune and a fuel pump upgrade. Of course a scan tool is mandatory.

i am looking into the same setup, blue tops and a ta49. ive been told by many that this is a tried and true combo, and works fine with the stock stlal converter. i will be keeping the stock converter until i need a new trans and then ill up to a 2800 stal or something. but until then, the stock converter will be just fine

My Precision TA-49 with the Precision exhaust housing and a stock convertor is a pig until I get up to about 2600 - 2800 RPMS, then it starts to rock-n-roll. I also have the Bluetops. With that said, I'd have to agree with their recommendations of a minimun 2600 stall. I think the key difference between some TA-49's is that the Precision housing "may" cause some lag when used with the stock convertor.....and then again, maybe not.

I can only tell you how MINE acts..........

I can second on the pig before 2800 rpm and I do have an orange stripe reworked d-5. The precision housing increases lag in my car.

thanks for the info guys

how many lbs are you running?

Try it with the stock converter you may like it. I had to change mine to a 3000 12" because I couldn't spool the turbo against the foot brake at the track. You may have better luck, or you may need a looser converter due to the altitude we are at. You can always change the converter. What works at sea level doesn't always work here.

I have a garrett housing and have never had a spool problem with a stock D5. 11.53@118.31 best at 23 psi on BFGDR's.

the TA-49 and TE-44 turbos both spool up as fast as the stocker with a stock converter...don't even have to worry about spoolup...just bolt on and go!

i would get a set of 50 lb injectors and be done with injectors forever...you will never have to upgrade them even if you go larger turbo and motor work down the road...we have a sale going on right now...buy a set of 6 50lb injectors and get a free 93 street chip with them...

is there a difference between the Garrett and Precision housings? seems like some of you say that the precision is a bit slower on spool up.

actually it's the complete opposite...the precision housings flow and spool better than the garrett housings...

I'm not so sure about this one. With the size difference between the PTE unit and the garrett unit, I would say the PTE housing would obviously flow better once you get it spooled.

On the other hand, with its size, I would think it would spooler slower than the smaller unit.

Check this link for pictures of the different housings.

if you get the .63 A/R with a precision housing there's nothing that will match it as far as flow and spoolup...yeah of course it would spool slower if you had the .85 A/R...this is why Precision makes their own housings...because Garrett's don't flow as well...otherwise we would buy Garrett housings...

thanks for looking up those pics on gnttype.org. obviously the precision housing will flow better. i need more top end power more than anything else(stock converter). my "rival" buddy owns a supra and they are notorious for being hard to beat in those highway battles:D . now, i cant see how the precision would have better spool up characteristics as compared to the smaller garrett housing, but it may be a small difference.

What is this?

Hey Ryan slow down. How will I ever catch up!!! New injectors and turbo? OH, I'd stick with the stock units. Much easier on the wallet. Bigger turbos are over rated!!!!!!! Way to Fast for these colorado conditions! ;) Take it easy Tim

Ryan,

The original owner of my TTA put a Ta-49 on it and kept the stock converter and injectors. He ran a best of 12.4 that way....:)

Tim,

I just bought another daily driver and need some detail work done....Any recommendations? ;) Really.

We should trailer up to Denver at their next show and shine
