ta49 - ta62

i have a ta49 on my car and i put my brothers ta62 next to my 49 and i can not see any more size in the 62, should i . I thought my ta54 was much bigger then my 49. Could my brothers turbo not be a ta62, and is there any way to check it.

Physically overall I think they are the same.

You have to measure the compressor and exhaust wheels to see the differences.

Wheel size is what matters.

My newly rebuilt TA62 had the wheel right out to the very edge of the housing you couldn't fit a bigger one in there I don't think.

Looking at the inlet side. The wheel is a 58mm on the 49, and 59mm on the 62. The real difference should be the P-trim exhaust wheel on the 62.
BTW, a 54 is basically a 61.

I just swapped a 44(basically same as the 49) out for a 62.I took some side by side shots and the difference is very clear.I don't have them on the web anywhere,but i would be glad to send them to you in the morning when i can get to my home computer so you can see the diff.

Performance wise the 44 is simialr to the 49, but they are different style housings (TA vs TE). The 49-62 all use the same housing. Same as the stock one as I recall.

Your best bet is to sell your Ta-62 to me and let me worry about it

Some turbo vendors "engrave" the size on the bottom/side of the housing. My TA62 says "62" right on the side of the compressor outlet. My PTE Stealth had it written on there, too.
