Hi folks,

I'm wondering if anyone has had trouble with tall valve covers (I'm using the TA covers) and H&R motor mounts (both sides) causing the PS valve cover to contact the firewall by heater core? The rear of the PS valve cover is notched for this, but it is still touching in my case.

If so, what did you do about it?

Thanks!!!
Scott

Mine did too. I just "clearanced" the sheild with a hammer. It has about 1/4" of room now.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I know these mounts are stiff, but do you ever get contact (or false knock) from movement under load with the 1/4" clearance?

Do you still have the metal shield around the air box? If so, it will have to go.

As a side note, TA has a new design, high-tech looking valve cover in the works which was instigated by this interference problem with A/C cars. It has a sloping, rounded profile that "hugs" the springs and rockers! Latest info it is a couple months away from production.:)

I'm sure it rubs at some point, but no, I never get false knock from it. Taking the heat sheild off is a good idea, I should have done it while my motor was out. Its kind of a pain to get out with the motor in.

Another option is to use a "Dremmel" and cut out the lower portion of the sheild in the area of the interference.

Replace your body mounts.

I cut it up and hated doing only to find out the next year (when I replaced the body mounts with polys) that I could have had the clearance!!!

Anyway, you'll be surprised how compressed the stock body mounts are....I too have the poly engine mounts and have about 2" of clearance now with the cut....if I didn't cut I'd still have the room needed...especially when you consider that those poly engine mounts barely let the engine rock at all....unless you don't care about cutting?

Food for thought ;)

I have good body mounts and still had to dimple the heat sheild. All cars are different.

valve cover clearance

Check your tranny mount. I changed my tranny mount and it helped. I't was old and oil soaked from a slow rear seal leak.

I'm looking for some more help here.

I have clearance between the covers and the firewall, but by scratch marks can see that both the PS cover and the DP are hitting (firewall and frame, respectively) underload.

I see the HR parts motor mounts allow for some adjustment-- any tips on how to best configure them for clearance here?
