I just had my Tranny rebuilt and the shop told me that the convertor isn't locking up. I was looking at it today and noticed that with the key on the solenoid wire isn't getting 12 volts. the 3rd and 4th switches are getting power still and i was wondering is it a constant 12 volts or does the computer send a signal? I want to know if I can just hook it up to a another 12v source through the brake light switch? or would it be better for the tranny to search out the ground and fix it.

The tcc solenoid gets it's power through the brake light switch. The ECM grounds the low side of the solenoid to activate it. You may have a bad brake switch or a wiring problem at the switch or between the switch and the tcc. connector.

Alright I'll check that out, so with NO brake should there be a voltage? or it should be grounded?

With the key on, foot off the brake you should have 12V. When you press on the brake it opens the circuit - no 12V. Usually the problem is that the switch isn't adjusted right.
