Is there any way to test the EGR solenoid with a mity vac to check for correct operation? What steps are needed in order to do this? I tried testing the vacum port directly on the solenoid but it did not hold any vacum.

If you want to determine if the EGR system is getting a vacuum signal, disconnect the hose at the EGR vavle and connect it to your mityvac or vacuum guage. Take it for a ride, vacuum should show on the gauge once you're off idle and cruising down the road. To determine if the solenoid vacuum ports are okay, start engine and idle, remove the solenoid filter cover and remove the filter. Place finger on end of port (where the filter used to be) and engine will die or run rough.
