Sorry if this is the wrong forum..please move if needed. I have a buddy that has an 03 Cobra with a Kenne Bell on it. He is running about 20 pounds of boost. The car runs damn good, but I plan on put the v6 on him. What is the trick to beating them ?

thanks

Cobra

What ever you do, do not race from a role. Cobra's are top end cars and they are hard to hang with. Now with that being said you can smoke him out of the hole with the right mods. I personally had trouble with a local kid talking smack constantly and wanting to race me on the street. I told him to meet me at the track and he showed up with street tires! Needless to say he got spanked by the good ole turbo 6:D He actually tried to launch the car with those street tires. When I went through the traps he was at half track;)
I had to listen to that terd whine all night about how he should have done this and that, blah, blah, blah. You don't show up at a gun fight without a gun.

A 2.2 KB on 20lbs is right around 600rwhp trapping in the mid 120's. You're going to need a lot of mods to keep up. Regardless, like some others said, don't race from a roll, race from a stop. Hopefully you'll get a good enough launch to hold the lead through the 1/4. Good luck.

I bet a buck the Cobra doesn't have anything outside of under the hood mods. It amazes me how many people will pure all their time and money under the hood and foget about traction. A stock 03/04 Cobra already has traction issues without adding power to it. Just do like the rest and Don't do it from a roll...besides roll starts are gay. We still need to know what has been done to your car and what year it is?

Thats because you are the Cobra

That is what is sounds like to me...he doesn't know what year of car he drives?

I guess I'm going to have to see a picture with a Regal and a sign saying I love Turbobuick.com posted in the windsheild :)

LMAO... gotta love it when the cobra guy has to come on here and see if he's gonna get the smackdown,

I hope you get Owned.....

You have the right combo to own the Cobra. But as I stated before make sure you have the right tires and all he will see is your taillights from the start of the race to the finish line. What is your best ET? The best that I have ever seen a Cobra run ON STREET TIRES is a 13.70. Now I have heard of better times just have yet to see it.

Good luck and if you have any questions, post them!

Could you please pass along my post to the cobra owner:biggrin:

Welcome aboard, I like your combo... what size turbo?

With only 308rwhp, Bob Cosby ran an 11.62 with a 99 cobra with just bolt ons and a live axle swap out of a GT with 4.56 gears. Mine was set up just like his, same 4.56 gears in a live axle, and I had 322rwhp. But I had MAJOR traction problems. This 11.62 is naturally aspirated and an incredible driver with a tuned suspension. A stock 03 cobra with the swaybar pulled, slicks and a smaller pulley, bringing boost up to about 13 (stock blower), can run mid 11's all day. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine did it. This guy, if he truly is pushing 20psi with a KB blower, is likely into the to low 700's at the rear wheels. Maybe high 600's. Now its a matter of whether or not he has suspension work, sticky tires, and can drive. Getting even sticky tires to hook with 700rwhp with a stick on the street is no easy task. Pretty much impossible. But if he can transfer weight on launch and can drive, he may be pretty dangerous. That 13.70 ET that someone mentioned above, was obviously with a ****ty driver and likely not an 03-04 with a blower. Most of the 99-01 cobra guys have to take it easy from the factory crap IRS rear end with halfshafts that snap like twigs if you look at them wrong.

I maybe wrong but wasn't the 03/04 Cobras the only ones to come with IRS and the rest came with soild rear ends? It's a common swap for an 03/04 Cobra to install a soild rear end from something like an 01 Cobra. Anyhow, they now have some pretty beefed up half shafts for the IRS that can get down as low as 9's. I find It's rare for people to even think about rear suspenssion outside of tires but who knows.

Yeah you're wrong. The IRS came out in 99. It was developmentally challenged to say the least. It was a terrible design. poorly thought out. The geometry was all wrong and the halfshafts are weak. Wheel hop is terrible, and even if you go through all the tricks in the book to tighten the 99-01 IRS up, it's still weaker than the solid rear, and still hops. Just about everyone peaked out at 1.7 60ft's and dared not try anything more intense. Drag radials could be thrown on, and you could get those times, but just about everyone who tried slicks to bring that time down, ALWAYS broke halfshafts. And this is even with the kick ass aftermarket shafts installed. The problem wasnt the metal, it was the design. Anyone who was interested in drag racing a 99-01, 9 times out of 10, ended up with a solid rear from a GT cause you could throw 4 grand into an IRS and still not be able to add slicks. In 03 they really beefed the whole thing up. But, a 9 second 03 does not have a bone stock IRS. They have the big halfshafts, braces, bushings, etc. I drove to Arizona one morning (8 hours each way!), did a built '01 GT rear end swap with someone out there who had ditched the IRS in his cobra, and wanted to get an original IRS back in his car so he could get a high price for the car, and drove home the same night. OMG that was horrible. But it was SO worth it. best thing I ever did on that car. Whats really awesome is that adding 4.56 gears is like throwing a 125 shot of nitrous on those cars, and you can still get 25mpg, cruising at 3200rpm at 80mph. When you can shift at 7500rpm, 3200 is nothing.
