Can RTV be used on the water pump bolts or do I need to use a specific thread sealer? Thanks

BA

used it on mine...no problems.

I used black rtv hi-temp. You'll be fine with any good pipe sealant/tape (i.e. permatex #2).

This is what i use and it works GREAT.

Permatex "high performance" Thread Sealant. PN# 56521
comes in a white tube about 1.69 FL. OZ.

Are you talking about main bearing bolts?? If so, NO. The main bearing bolts don't penetrate anything.

NEVER EVER use an RTV type sealant on ANY bolt that has a specific torque value that is required, like mains, heads, intake, etc.

Use ONLY teflon base thread sealer in those important applications, in order to maintain as accurate a torque value as possible.
