My son blew a headgasket back in May? Apr.? I replaced headgaskets after having both heads checked for warpage. I didn't pull the oil pan cause my neighbor said pull the drain plug and look for water or milkshake. None of the above. Anyways, as the summer went on I started noticing a tick or knock at idle that would go away when I increased rpm. I put 50 weight oil in and the noise never went away. My neighbor thinks it could be a wrist pin gone bad. I'm definately pulling the motor cause it's gonna snow soon. She doesn't like to go outside in the cold. Any ideas? I know I'll find it but has anyone else had this happen? Thanks, Dave

Before you pull the motor, make sure it's not a leaking/cracked header. Very common and sounds like a lifter ticking. Mine were most noticeable when hot and idleing. And thicker oil won't make them go away.

I have noticed when the head gasket goes the gasket material clogs up the oil pick up. Not ever time but worth checking.
