It started out to as i thought the tensioner was going bad, little bouncy not alot of distance in travel. So i replaced the belt for a cheap throw that it was the belt. So tensioner still moved with a tick sound, figured the baering had gone in it.

Saw tensioners were 115 bucks no big deal but wanted to make sure i wasnt going to waste time and money.

Took the serp belt off, started it for a few seconds knowing that water wasnt flowing, ticking was still there.

Not %100 posotive but sounds like its coming from the ballancer area. Intercooler fan looks doesnt look to have any chips out of it. Any suggestions?

Motor had gone a rebuild only a few thousand miles ago.

Possibly loose torque convertor bolts? They can trick you as to where you think the sound is coming from.
Also, some of the replacement belts are not the correct size.
Can't remember the correct measurement, but Auto Zone will have the correct size.
My first replacement belt made it sound like an old washing machine. The AZ belt worked.

Check your crank sensor. The ticking might be the the sensor hitting the balancer.

Bad lifter. Some of the 109 blocks are prone to lifter bore misalignment. Been ther done that :(

I had a friend unfamiliar with cam button not install it properly, and it fell off, causing a knocking sound that I thought was the tensioner. You mentioned it's rebuilt recently so just offering another possibility.

check the crank sensor and also the cam sensor. They can both make those kind of noises. My cam sensor was making a ticking noise. So I replaced it and solved all of my problems.

Check for crank sensor to reluctor interference, check for excessive crank end play should only be .006-.010, could have wiped out thrust bearing. Also poss. loose timing chain if high mileage vehicle, Listen for cam sensor noise. If so try another. Good Luck

Cracked balancer. I had that once.

Me too. It was a slight ticking/rattling noise. Easy enough to pull off and inspect, well sorta easy, as you need 220 ft-lbs to put the bolt back in which requires the flywheel to be chocked up so the engine doesn't turn over when you torque it down.
