I raced an A4 LS1, with a 75 dry shot and flowmaster, the other night. We raced from about a 20 punch and he only beat me by 2-3 cars all the way through 3rd(when I got out of it). Then we raced from a stop and we stayed side by side for awhile but my trans wasn't shifting real quick 2nd-3rd and he pulled me by 2-3 cars, then 3rd gear just held there for a couple seconds before shifting into 4th and he pulled me again, then I got out of it. I was pretty happy with how I ran, considering what I have done and having fg street tires, although traction wasn't a problem since I didn't spool up any. Really the first time I've raced the car too.
How much of a difference would it have made to spool the car up by brake boosting while going or from a stop? The lag on the turbo isn't bad, but it does take about 2 seconds from a stop to reach 15psi, which is what I race at.

In either case (rolling or standing start) it makes quite a significant difference.
If I suspect a "confrontation" is about to take place, I'm building boost against the brakes (rolling or sitting).

But then again, you also gotta KNOW the limitations of your tires for either situation. ;)

Considering good traction and a 5psi launch compared to no spool, would my outcome have been different? I guess I would've gotten the jump out on him and stayed there.
My limitations are definitely tires if i were to spool it up to anything past 2psi.

stock converter? i used to break my tires at 1800 with very little boost.

had converter restalled to 2800, put on s-10 wheel cylinders and big rear brake shoes. now it holds 10-12 psi at 2600-2800.

with your other mods and some stall you might chew up that other guy!

Does anyone have any track times where they spooled it up on one run and not on another? Just trying to get an idea of the difference in e.t. as I have not had a chance to make alot of test runs or get to a strip.
Thanks, James.

No time comparisons, but you should brake-torque it a little. It will make a good difference. On street tires, I bring it up to 0 lbs while holding the brake, and roll into the throttle instead of stabbing it when the light goes green (or last yellow at the track). If I stab it, the tires will go up when the boost runs north of 15 lbs.
