well as in 1 of my other posts... my timing chain has snapped...

where do i buy a quality one and what does everyone recommend...

i was looking on the advance auto web page and they have like 5 different ones and i dont know what to choose

probably not the nylon 1 again even though it weighs .5 lbs and the iron is 2 lbs?

well if anyone can PLEASE give me some part #s on these and i need everything that is included in the replacement...

i have heard you need new tensioner, timing chain, both gears..

im sure someone experience can give me some help! thanks in advance

I bought the stock replacement one from Advanced Auto. Both gears, the chain, tentioner, and fel-pro gaskets were under $100. I think they were Sealed Power. The top gear is all steel. Make sure you get the roller button with the heavy duty spring from GM. Whatever you do, make sure you torque the balancer bolt really tight. The factory calls for like 220ft lbs.

i bought the chain and gears from auto zone. i think everything was around 30 bucks. i was told to use the gaskets and roller button from GM. the gm gaskets are thinner, causing the button to put the proper pressure on the cam to keep it from walking. make sure to use a new gm tensioner. i searched and read for hours, and this is about the best possible combo. DO NOT use a wizzer wheel to clean the old gaskets off. do it the hard way and use alot of razor blades. if you don't, you will be dealing with wiped bearings because dirt got into one of the oil pump passages. trust me. i have read alot of posts that read " i just replaced my timing chain and now i have an engine knock"!! i just recently did mine, and it's not that bad using the razor blades. it's also a good idea to drop the oil pan and clean it out too. you don't want any antifreeze getting into the bearings either. it's cake compared to the timing chain, and makes it easier getting the front cover back on. i'm a flat rate tech used to working on a lift, and i did the whole job in my driveway. it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. good luck. :D :D

yes speaking of TDC

how in the world am i going to know when my cam and crank are ligned up... the previous chain broke... well i still havent been able to get that crank bolt off...

but i would imagine lign up the 2 dots again and then take them off... seems easy enough i think... what about degreeing the cam... i hear that can get messed up?

o and does anyone know where i can pick up a full motor gasket set..
i had to take off my heads to check the valves as 2 push rods were slightly bent but i think that was from before because my heads look great...
so i need intake gaskets all the way down to the pan and EVERYTHING in between! welll thank you for all your help

well finally got an air compressor and got to see the timing chain!

it was a double roller... everything all steel!
lunati cam.. everything looks brand new still!?!?

well what would cause the TC to snap... 1 link simply bent in 1/2 and snapped it looks like... teeth on the gears look perfect...
what i am wondering is will excessive knock and running bad cause harm to a TC
when i first bought the car it was running bad... turns out injectors were shot and not all of them were working! i was driving it around like nothing was wrong and i think i am paying for it now.. i just thought it needed a little tune up... well it was knocking alot then and really shaking and just not in good order...

so i am wondering if it would be ok just to get a new chain for the thing or should i buy a single one? any benefits from a double?

the cam aswell looks great and i was looking at it through the lifter valley but the 4th lifter on the drivers side... i think that is the one that is infamous for wiping, well it only lifts 1/2 as high as the others... so i pulled the cam and measured the lobes with a piece of papaer to get the oil marks from the lobes and that lobe is alot rounder and basically beginning to wipe...
so now i need to know what to do on parts meaning what cam should i buy to replace it... i will be doing mostly street driving and maybe the strip 1 or 2 times a year tops!

and what is the best gasket set to buy? and how much do they usually go for...

red regal T has some for sale 115$ a set shipped... good deal or no?

well after looking further turns on the inside of the timing cover is showing a few sharp cracks... very small just on the surface but it is making the inside surface on the timing cover very rough... is this something to worry about or should i just sand it down smooth?

also my cam is a lunati.. 32506 part #

that is the web page for it... just wondering if i shouuld stick with that grind or what kind i should get... i hear 206-206 is a pretty good one... dont know what company to buy from.. what does everyone recommend
