Tip Exposure?

When it comes to an exposed tip K-type EGT probe... How much/how far into the exhaust stream should the tip be placed? As deep into the gases as it will go? Or closer to the upper inner face of the header collector? (since exhaust "should" flow along that side of the header tube).

This IS going behind the turbo in the PS header.
