did a search but i still got a couple questions:

1. is it worth it to backcut stock intake and/or exhaust valves when going to ported heads/cam

2. whats the USUAL cost to take the valves to a machine shop so they can backcut them? (i can reinstall them at home after the heads get done)

thanks:)

I had my Manley stainless valves backcut, BUT, he also did some work on the heads. I think they need the head when back cutting the valves so they can make sure they seat properly. Depending on what type of valve job the heads have is going to affect the way the valve is backcut. Im not 100% sure on this, but I think they need the heads when cutting the valves. Good luck.

In my opinion, you should not spend the money back cutting the stock valves. GM valves are two piece and are welded together. When you start making power, them stock two piece valves can break. I would just spend the money on a set of Ferreas or Manleys.
