I'm looking to buy a new trans cooler and want to know what is better. The "Plate" style or the "Tube/Fin" style??

One of the "tube/fin" style coolers i'm looking at is nearly 5'' thick! Has 8 cooling rows and runs coolant through two sections one in front of the other and has -8 AN fittings on it already. Both the other two coolers cost more and are only 1.5'' thick..

Is the thicker cooler better because it has two sections of cooling??

PS: Just to let everyone know, I will also have a Huge "S" blade fan that will be pulling air through it ..

I need opinions kind of quick because this needs to go on so I can do some testing on the dragon!

WHICH ONE?

LEFT: 48 row Plate desgin. $89.00

RIGHT: 8 row Tube / Fin design 4'' thick $56.00

Bar and plate works great, and getting that fan on it with a temp sender is the best way... That way the fan is not on all day long.

I agree. I run a B&M 70297 on my truck, and it works great. I also wired a switch into it so that I can bypass the thermostat switch and turn on my fans in the staging lanes.

Thanks for the input guy's!

No input from any of the Trans guy's on here? Not taking anything away from the guy's who already posted but someone out there must have used both kinds on there Buick and know which one done better.

From the feedback already the 48 row Plate cooler is the (no 1) choice right now.

Have the bar and plate w/fan one from B&M on my car and works great. Temp sensor kicks fan on at 180 degrees.

The Bar and Plate has more surface area for cooling. I'm not a trans expert, but science tells me the bar and plate are the best for heat transfer ;). I have a badass Earls engine oil cooler, pricy but worth it.

Ryan,

Did the temp sensor screw right into your cooler or did you have to build a "T" into one of the lines coming off the cooler? Because I would also like to add the temp sensor to mine.

Thats a nice set up but that is just too expensive for me when I already have the fan. I wish I could just buy the cooler & switch only but could'nt find it.

Scot, mine is a b&m mounted underneath the drivers floorboard, plenty of room and air flow as well as easy access if it needs to be removed for a oh I don't know lets just say a rolled sprag. The only problem there is it needs to be as thin as possible.

But you can man, well, kinda. Autozone and Advance both sell a temp probe with a thermostat switch, and they also both carry smallish Hayden fans. Depending on the size of your cooler, you MAY be able to throw something together.

scot, i have the lpd4590 installed between the front air dam and cause i have your air box kit minus the bottom.. it pulls bunch of air thru at idle and its rated at 28k

Derale.. thats all you need to know.

we have used just the cooler .. no fan for years and years on a street car .. B&M 70273

Heads up and it will save you the cash.

LONG is the company that makes the coolers for B&M. Find a place that sells Long and save the cash on the "Name" mark up.

I ended up getting the B&M 70274 cooler. I had $40 in gift certificates from when I ordered my seats so I just put that toward the cooler and it was less than $50
I would like to thank everyone for there input on helping me make my decision between the Plate or Tube style.

I had to use up these gift certificates before they expired.

Again, Thanks for everyones help it was Much appreciated!
