trap speeds in 3rd gear

with a stock long block and converter,what is the highest mph,that would be safe with 26 inch tires?...can you run 115 in third? would the rpm be too high?....

You can run 115 if your motor will pull 115. The RPM is safe, but without ported heads/cam, the HP falls off a cliff.

My car has run 118 with 28" tires but NEVER went faster than 114 (113.96) with 26" tires, even locking the converter.

I wouldn't shift into OD, though. Taller tires are the answer.

You can run that quick if you can make the power. Mine runs in the mid 117's with 26" tires. But my torque converter is locked in 3rd gear. I go through the traps in the 5200rpm range.
