Hi folks,
I'm going to switch to Max Effort and retain the stock-style WG actuator-- I now need to figure out how to set up the WG.

I've read posts in the archives about setting up the WG "tuner style" to deal with ME not using the WG solenoids, but can't find an example of how to set this up. Presumably this involves taking the solenoid and y-hose out of the picture.

Anyone have a how-to?

thanks,
Scott

Scott,

That's right. Run a single, high quality, 7/32" vacuum hose (not windshield washer hose, which is flimsy and can collapse) from the stock fitting on the turbo compressor cover to the stock fitting on the wastegate actuator. Make sure both ends of the hose are fully seated against the shoulders of the fittings. Zip tie both ends as an extra measure to prevent the hose from blowing off.

Retire your stock Y hose. Leave the wastegate solenoid valve plugged into the stock wiring harness. Cap the open connection(s) on the wastegate solenoid for appearance, if you like - it's not necessary. HELP makes proper sized vacuum caps.

You can get quality hose and HELP fittings from, for example, Pep Boys.

:)

Thanks for the excellent reply-- I've noticed that your posts are always top notch.

I've also had good luck with the HELP fittings and vac hose in the past.

Any specific tricks to adding a bleeder valve to this arrangement ?

Scott

I set mine up like that and my check engine light comes on. Code says its the wastegate solenoid. What should I do? Thanks

Plug the solenoid back in, you can't disconnect it electrically, just plumbing wise.

you can unplug the solenoid with a ME chip.......it ignores the error....may not be the case with other chips......my solenoid has been sitting in a drawer for close to 2 years now....much neater in the engine compartment

ditto for me.

My Wastegate Solenoid is in one of my toolboxes somewhere. :)

Me too!

I was just ASSuming that Pat ADkins didn't have an ME chip, since he is getting a solenoid code. I thought it was kinda impossible to get that code with ME. Those are some wicked chips, I was having a hard time justifying my FAST system with all the technology available in ME chips. FAST is just faster and easier to tune, I guess you gotta pay more to be stooopid like me!:D

turbosam6: What sort of times are you turning with that turbo & injector combo? How much boost?

Banning, I haven't been to the track yet with this combo. The car went 120 mph last year, but that was on the old turbo, inj, ecm, etc. I feel like its a mid 10 second capable combo, but all I really want is a 10.99. If it helps, we had this exact combo on my buddies t type last year, and it went 11.20 at 123 mph, on 25 psi. My heads are ported a little better than his, but otherwise the same car. He could have run 10's easily, but now the car is in pieces for restoration. The only reason it didn't go 10's then was traction. We had sportsman pros on it then, and 60' times were in the 1.8x range. The bummer was we had some slicks, but we forgot the lug nuts for those rims!

I'm going to dyno tune the car in a couple weeks, looking for 500 horse at the wheels. My buddies car dyno'd 475 with this combo, but I ain't afraid of boost, so I may turn it up some. We'll see I guess. Or blow it up trying!
