Anyone know what the correct heat shield bolt size is? All I could find in the archives is "8mm". I need a bit more info (length, thread pitch, etc.).

Is there a source for the right bolts (versus a regular hex-head bolt).

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks - these appear to be the right ones from McMaster:

P/N: 92820A420
Black Fnsh Stl Serrated Hex Flange Cap Screw M8 Size, 16MM Length, 1.25MM Pitch, Fully Threaded

I'm not sure the stock ones had serrated flange heads but these seem to be close enough. They sell in packs of 10 for $6.96.

The OEM ones are not black, nor are they serrated. However, you may like the look of the black bolts, and the serrations should keep them from loosening, without having to overtighten them - not that the shield tends to loosen. The serrations will bite into the shield a bit, so they may mark it.

BTW, stay away from stainless for this application - it tends to hang up with all the thermal cycling.

If you want automotive hardware per se I suggest you look into AU-VE-CO. They have great stuff.

Good luck!

I didn't mean to imply that they were exactly like stock. By "right" I meant they would fit. I figured the flanged head would look closer to stock than a regular hex head.

I guess I'm glad they didn't have stainless 'cause that's what I would've gone with - thanks for the info.

My shield is cut for the THDP and is painted. The regular bolts had already beat it up anyway. The stock bolts will only loosen up if you forget to tighten them ;). That's why I'm looking for new ones.

Sounds good, but check out AU-VE-CO when you get a chance - they really do have a nice catalog!!!
