turbo shaft play, which is acceptable

Is it the in and out play or the up and down play. I would guess none is best. but which is acceptable thanks

You do NOT want ANY in and out play.

Up and down is acceptable to a certain point. It must be minimal, though.

if its in and out would it be cheap to rebuild that part of the turbo

You would need new seals if that was the case. I think they are about $100 or so.

My TA49 had shaft play, so I sent it to PTE and also had the exhaust wheel upgraded to make the turbo a TA60. That costed me $405. Without upgrading the wheel (just the rebuild) I think would have been about $300.

I just looked at the reciept for having my TA49 repaired and upgraded to the TA60 and it was $405.00. I dont know exactly what it would have been if I just had the seals replaced. Maybe more like $300.
