i am the new owner of an 87 hardtop gn
it is all stock. i bought it from the origanl owner.
my questions are
do the drivers side exhust doughnuts go bad often.
and will a chip help the perfomance a little
and what chip is the best for me and what do they cost.
thankz

The first thing to get is a new fuel pump like a XP Plus from
Red Armstrong @ Quad Air. The stock one could barely keep up from factory. Then get some kind of scan tool so you can start tuning. Like a scanmaster, a turbolink or a Direct scan you will need a laptop computer. Go with Red Armstrong chips they are Great.

Here is Quad Air # (440) -235-3232

The exhaust problem could be a cracked driver side header.Look at the header between the 3 and 5 cylinders where the pipes join. They usually crack there. As for a chip.I like the Jay Carter 93 street chip for stock injectors $75.But your gonna get lots of different opinions on chips. Some people burn their own.Not all of these cars react exactly the same to certain chips.Good Luck

Do you plan on staying stock? Just a chip? Don't know what you mean by drivers side doughnut.Only doughnut I know of is for the down pipe.

You could try a Thrasher chip; for only $25 it's hard to beat and will give you a cheap intro on stock chip vs. aftermaket chip gains. Try Scott231 for one.
