I pulled the Intake and heads off of a Buddys GN today,We expected that It may have a blown Headgasket..It was losing Coolant,But not putting it in the oil...

What I found was the bottom of the Intake was coated with a Slimey looking crap that kinda looks like it blew a headgasket...But it has the texture of vasoline..

The headgaskets didnt blow out the fire Ring....But they had trails to the water jackets at the top of the HG's...And were getting ready to blow out anytime...

Could somebody tell me what they think happened by looking at the pics I took....Go Here http://briefcase.yahoo.com/tta343 And click on "GN Engine Pics"Folder...There is a pic of the intake,The Intake gasket,Headgaskets, this Slime was even all over inside the valve covers.....But Didnt show in the oil....

All replies will be appreciated...In case it makes a diffrence....This Motor has GN1's on it...

Thanks,Shawn

I can't really tell for sure, but it sure looks like a mix of STP,or motor honey and motor oil to me..
Coolant in oil usually look like coffee with creme in it....like a beige color.....

looks like coolant mixed in the oil, could be cracked head, blown head gasket, a number of things, but def not good.

You can blow a headgasket and put coolant just into the oil.
The brown is a sign of water/coolant. You can get a sludge like that from condensation. ie toooo cool of thermostat, or just short run periods, prolonged storage. While a 160d Thermostat can get you a few tenths, the downside is that the oil often doesn;t get hot enough long enough to percolate condensation out of the oil.

Ther's nothing even wrong with that, That's the way it' suppossed to look ;)

Hopefully it's justa HG, Once you get thos eheads out you'll be able to see if coolant was pushing through behind the valves. Lets see some picks of that 8 lobe cam you got in there :D

I should be off wednesday and thursday gimmie a buzz if I can help ya. Gotta go to woodbrige building dept. You know how those people below the raritan bridge are cant work a fax. Darn new fangled equipment :D
