Hello everyone I am kinda new here and I figured that I would pop in and say hi. I had just bought a GN a few days ago from a military member that was moving to alaska. The guy didn't have the heart to take it up to alaska just to see it get distroyed It had been up for sale for a month and i am very glad that not too many people notced it. The for sale sign was laying down and the wrighting was very hard to read. All I saw was the Red rectangle in the window and I knew that I had to chace this guy down I am very glad he didnt gun it. I dont think that my 84 ford falling apart bronco would have stayed with him. The chinchilla under the hood would have fallen dead in its wheel if i tryed. He was on bace so it was easy to keep up with him. I payed 8500 for the car and it was in excellent condition and it had only 60,000 miles on it. But it needs paint badly. It has an adjustable waste gate on it with a hooker exhaust system, 30 lb fuel injectors k&n air filter the fuel pump has been hot wired, three guages have been added. Boost, EGT, and water temp, and a buck fifty in change under the back seat with a couple of m&m's that i am saving for later. I have much to learn about this car. One of my first lessons that i learned all ready was to lock the dam t top windows. As i was going down the road i herd a pop and wosh followed by some foul launguage. The window flew off and landed on the curb. Thank god it wasn't dammaged.
The car needs a tune up badly. I got smoked by a Z28 my egt was peged out past 1800 my boost pressure was reading 17 and i was getting around 10 miles to the gallon and no power past 100 mph or was that ten gallons to the mile i was getting? I am glad that nothing was dammaged under the hood I slowed down quickly and headed home. I am glad that i was able to find a shop that worked on turbo buick in Ca not far from my house i am getting the car tuned up next week.

Welcome to the Darkside. Goto www.turbo-link.com and order you the scan tool. This will help you allot in the tuning of the car..Shoot what it is going to run you for the shop to tune it you could have bought Turbo-Link and done it yourself....These cars are not that complicated. You will also want to see what chip is int he car.

This board is full of knowlege and allot of very helpfull people. When you have a question click on the search button at the top and do a search...If you can't find it or you are in a hurry just post it, everyone would be glad to help.

Take the wastegate rod and lengthen it about four turns until you get a scan tool or knock gauge to monitor knock.

With crappy CA gas at 17psi the motor will not last long. You probably have no top end because the computer is pulling timing.
Read here and you will not be mislead. Welcome to the darkside:cool:

sounds to me like you are overboosting, which will cause the computer to retard the timing,, resulting in poor performance. U may need to turn down the boost. What octane fuel r u running. And is the fuel system stock, cause if so that may be the first thing u should look into.

Thanks for the info It will be a while before i get that scan tool. My wife wont let me buy any more toys for a long time. I need my car fixed soon and I dont want to risk blowing the engine or causing other damage before i leave to texas for a couple of weeks. I turned the boost down to 13 and the best gas that i could get is 91 octain I thought about useing av gas but I read in the notes that the origonal owner kept that av gas will foul up the o2 sencor. I am right now running a 93r chip what ever that means. I do have the stock chip and i thought about putting that back in but i am thinking that i should wate untill i get the car looked at by sombody that knows GN's i think that i found the only shop in northern ca that knows how to work on those things. I alsow thought of turning off the turbo compleatly for a while. That wouldnt cause any problem would it?

You should be fine at 13psi. The car will be a dog without the turbo so leave it alone.

If you cannot afford a scan tool, a knock gauge will suffice in the meantime. They are about 1/5 the cost. If she wont let you spend $50 for one you have other issues ;)

You can leave that chip in there for now, though I dont recognize who makes it it is obviously a 93 octane chip

Welcome ASH, if you spend much time on this board these guys will become like friends. I learned a lot and am still learning new things all the time about my GN. This site is where I got information and questions answered to determine the modifications that I made to my car.:D
And where to buy the products you need.

Even with that low of octane fuel you should be able to run more boost than 13 psi...matter of fact 17 psi should be about right. That 1800º EGT reading you had was VERY hot to say the least! Make sure that doesn't happen again any time soon. You should be shooting for ~1600º EGT after a WOT 1/4 mile pass if all is running right. If I were you, I would print off the spring cleaning chart and make sure all sensors are 100%, as well as make sure all settings are where they need to be. Good luck with your new ride, the power that these motors can/will make is unreal and addictive!
