Under the timing cover, on the crank shaft small gear (timing chain gear), there is a small sheet metal bowl (I think it has been referred to as "oil slinger") - it is on the crank snout -
How critical is that bowl shaped sheet metal thing?

(Re-doing the crank shaft and connecting rod bearings.)

Also provides proper "stack-up" for the balancer and therefore the pullies and crank sensor interruptor ring. Leave it on!

slinger

I believe it is called a slinger. I assumed it had something to do with slinging oil on the chain. Definately should leave it on for the prior reasons. And no you CAN NOT put it on backwards. I have seen this asked many times. It won/t let you.

what is the part number and availability of this part - I need it and can not find it on GM Parts Direct
