well i was having some problems with knock.

i decided to try some 110 octane leaded race fuel along with some non-oxygenated 92 octane. about 4/5th race fuel and 1/5 92.

i took the car out on the freeway and tested.
as i ease into the pedal, it registers 0 knock and pulls like a mofo.
definately making some power.

a few times i would get a couple degrees of knock when initially hitting the pedal but it semed to go away.

scanmaster readings were for the most part normal with a little rich condition.
i know at wot the wideband was showing real rich (10.6)
how can i get the knock to go away totally with a lower octane gas?

the car has it but never used it.

one less thing to worry about. besides i run a high octane fuel and don't beat on it much.

If you have alky, why not use it?
That high octane stuff costs big bucks. It smells good, though.
Now, if you figure out why I have knock with both alky and 110 octane, let me know.
Speaking of which - has anybody really had knock due to a too rich condition? I've read about it, but don't understand how it's possible.

You can have knock from being to rich.I bet your car is an absolute pig with both alky and 110.

My car runs over 20PSI on 93 ocatne and Alky. I use Direct Scan and watch knock retard. I don't ever see it go above 1.8. At the track I ignore the knock guage because I think it's picking up false knock. Haven't blown it apart yet. :p

Thanks, Jason.
I shut off the alky, and still have knock when goosing it from slower speeds and takeoffs using 110.
Punching it from 35+MPH is okay, although I have it backed down to 16-17 lbs. of boost.
Apologies to PHANTASM for jumping in on his thread, but why does a too-rich condition cause knock? Bog I could understand.

Sounds like your chip has too much timing and or your reluctor on your balancer may be out of place causing higher timing

i have two chips from eric at tt.

i currently have his street chip in it with less timing than the 2nd chip which is the race chip for 100 octane.

i think i will leave it alone and drive the car. it is a blast when everything works right

thing pulls like a built big block. :D

going to get it chassis dynoed next week hopefully.

Question for u

If ur getting a knock signal at all wont the computer pull timing out of the motor in turn taking away performance? Ive been waiting to data log my car because I have a false knock somewhere.

How much boost were you running? You should be able to run 15-16 PSI on 93 octane. Above that, you need a cool air charge (Alchy) or higher octane....Its just about that simple. :)

Have you used the GM Top Engine Cleaner?
....how can i get the knock to go away totally with a lower octane gas?
Lower your boost....Lower your timing....

If you want high boost without knock, you need high octane and a perfectrly tuned engine.
Another solution is a perfectly tuned engine, 93 or 94 octane and Alchohol injection.

I think you already know this, right? ;)
