I just received a set of Upper Control Arms and Lower Control Arms from HRpartsNstuff. Has anyone installed these pieces?? I am really concerned with the UCA bushing at the rear end. How hard in remove and replace with the new poly ones supply in the kit? I didn't get the install tool - Am I in trouble??

Is there a trick to making this job simple?

Thanks,
Brandon

If you're not in a hurry to get them in, order & get the install tool first. You'll be VERY glad you did! Then, you can sell it on here afterward.

It will save you MUCH grief. :)

There are two ways to do this. First buy the tool and aleviate the headaches. Trust me this is the easy way. But if you do not it is not a toatl washout. First get the car up as high as you can. Remove the uppers and lower the rear end down as low as the shocks will allow it. Using a 1/2 inch drill bit drill into the rubber of the bushings at 12:00 3:00 6:00 and 9:00. Now do it again inbetweeen these holes. Use a good pair of channel locks and pull the rubber out in pieces. Once all the rubber and center are out, from the back side usinf a ball pein hammer start to crush the shell in. Now using a punch, punch the shell out. This is the esiest next to the tool. Using the tool 5 minutes per bushing. Rent the tool to friends. Second way a couple of hours per bushing. Your choice. Hope this helps.

Is this tool available to rent at your local auto store? If not, how much is it to buy?

Thanks

Scott

When I changed my GN's upper rear bushings, I made a tool for the job. It's simply a puller,,, use a long bolt, a couple large washers and about a 2" piece of 2" pipe. Put the pipe over the big end of the bushing, then a big washer over that, and the bolt all the way through the washer, pipe and bushing,, then a washer the size of the bushing and a nut. When you tighten the bolt, it will suck the bushing out. Works fine and only takes a short time. One tip, wire brush/clean and lube(WD40, etc.) the bushing real well.

I recently put the hnr lower control arms on my 87. Maybe I was doing it wrong but that was the hardest thing I have done in a while!
just jack the rear up ,take off the wheels and the drums.
take off the sway bar. I took the time to wire wheel it and painted it a nice shiny black.
now one side at a time take the lowers off. its not too difficult, just soak em good with wd 40 the night before.
next attempt to install the new arm after you grease the bushings a little. The front isnt too bad but the rear will take a while.IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO GET THE HOLES LINED UP. I ended up taking the lower part of the shock off and was then able to put a thin piece of metal thru the holes and muscled them close to alignment. Finally ended up with a BFH (big %*&$ hammer) and knocked the rear into position and got the bolts thru!
Now repeat for other side, dont forget to rehook up the shocks.
Next up for me is the upper arms so let us know what worked for you.
Good luck.
