Just did the valve spring change on my 75k 87 GN...I've had the springs for 3 yrs,but been putting it off..well,4 hours,2 band-aids and a few foul words, and it's done....I hope it's worth a few tenth next time at the strip...
Anyone do it faster than 4 hours?

I did one in a little more than 2 Hrs, once, but my first one took two days. During that awful two days, I learned everything NOT to do and it allowed me to get the procedure down to two hours.

Four hours ain't bad for the first time.
Mine took about three hours and I'm a mechanic.
Take as much time as you need to avoid making mistakes
is my theory.:)

I think the hardest thing was putting the keepers on the passenger side last 2 cyls....and taking off the heater hose tube that goes to the water pump and heater core..all those have never been off,and had death holds...But, we made that 9:15 showing of Starsky and Hutch last nite..worked out just fine!

takes about 20 minutes when the motor is on the stand:D

you did the work fast, but i like taking my time so nothing gets scratched:p

First time was about 4-6 hours total, did one side one day, and the other side the next. The next time I did them was for a friend, he already had the valve covers off, and it took about 1.5 hours, took more time to wad up little pieces of paper towels to plug up all of the drain holes to keep a keeper from falling down there than it did to change them.

You will definitely be glad you did this, the power in the upper rpm range will feel some much different than before with 17 yr old springs than have about 60# of pressure left in them at the installed height!
