I just got my heads back from being ported. The guy who did it didn't have a valve spring compressor that would work on the covers that go around the spring. My question is: Can I take those "shims" or covers off and still use the heads fine?

TIA
Adam

From what I have been told you need to leave them on. I will sell you the valve spring removal tool from Kirban. The 90 degree angle of the tool is broken it but it works the same with the 45 degree side. New this kit cost 42.00 + shipping I will sell it for 20 + shipping.

The covers on the springs dampen them, new springs have them inside the spring.

If the springs have them inside already, putting the old cups over the springs would add even more pressure to them.

It's just a new design to the springs, personally I would not use them, but people sometimes do.

Whether or not to use the cups would depend on what springs you are installing.

So what are they?

CC980's don't need the cups.
