Walbro 307

In the middle of replacing the stock fuel pump with a Walbro..

When I got the walbro it did not come with a sock so I bought one.

After pulling the old pump I went to pump the new sock on the pump. Doesn't fit. The end of the pump is too large. I tried the old sock, same size as the new sock.

The Walbro does have (for lack of better description) a wire mesh screen that inserts into the end of the pump. Kinda like the size of an upside down thimbel.
The mesh screen is pretty fine, but not nearly the filtering ability of a sock..

Any thoughts? I have replaced installed walbros before and never ran into this.

Can someone give me a part number for a fuel sock that is known to fit a Walbro?

Thanks.. Need to get this thing back together. Don't want to go to the parts store and start "trying on" socks until I find one that fits.

i think going to the parts store and trying on socks is the only alternative you have...

ive seen 2 style socks, one small one large... i had a local buddy who stopped by advanced auto and said they had the sock in stock, fit like a glove, but i cant remember what style it was... i think it was the smaller one-

once read somwhere that a pump sock/strainer from early 90s mustang 5 liter V8 is the correct size ... but I'd be cautious, I have no corroboration.

still, it may help narrow down the list of searches at your parts store.

if you find a NAPA part #, let us know!

Is your pump a 307M? The M stands for machined, where the sock mounting surface has been milled down to accept the stock (smaller) GM style sock. If it's not an M, then it needs the Ford style sock (bigger).

It had an "M" engraved in the side of the pump, but it took the larger than stock sock. I will post the part number later tonight..
