I just went out and measured the rims, and the BS measures closer to 3-5/8" (the set with the BFG 275-50-15s mounted). I currently have the set with Nitto 275-50-15s on the car. I took some more measurements while I was out there:
Current tire height (best as I can tell... laid a 3x12 piece of plywood across the top): ~25"
Air bags PSI: D=2, P=5 (negligible )
Aluminum brake drums
Passenger side:
Current ride height (concrete floor to wheel moulding): 27-3/4"
Outer moulding lip to face of rim (using plumb bob): 1-1/8"
Outer moulding lip to face of tire (using plumb bob): 0-1/8"
Driver side:
Current ride height (concrete floor to wheel moulding): 27-1/4"
Outer moulding lip to face of rim (using plumb bob): 1-3/4"
Outer moulding lip to outer face of tire (using plumb bob): 0-3/4"
Note that the r/e is ~1/2"+ off-center to the passenger side. I have found that this off-centering is fairly common... depends on how the body is situated on the frame, typically. Also note that the outermost face of the tire is a couple inches lower than the face of tread.
I'm trying to figure why I don't have a problem. Suspension is stock though with a rebuild ~10k miles ago, including new springs. That probably helps a bit. Also, poly-U body mounts throughout. Perhaps this is making the difference on my car? It did pick up the body further off the frame that the old, deteriorated, original body mounts... maybe 1/2"+??
A friend's GN has the original springs and steel drums, but also the Poly-U's, though he (and I) were both running the Nitto's well before we did the body Mounts.
My curiosity is a little piqued, though. Can I here some other rides heights from folks running Nitto 275-50-15s with stock suspensions, please??
