My complaint is when I make a post it goes back to the beginning of the thread instead of seeing what I posted. I find that quite irritating. Also having say 200 PM's wouldnt be a huge deal for you considering some give you 1000 PM's. Thanks!

Just take 100 extra pm's per person and times that by just a generous 500 members... Thats 50,000 extra pm's on the hard drives... That would be alot better served as 50,000 posts as opposed to PM's...

We are looking at all options... Click on the google links more to help with the costs some...

Fair enuf but what about when I post it goes to the top of thread instead to the last post which would be mine? Doesnt make sense?

Now that I don't understand myself. It was doing that before the upgrade... Jay is checking this thread and maybe he can check that...

Its a Quad Xeon with 4GB of RAM and 2x15,000 RPM SCSI drives. I forget how much space is on the drives.

The 3.8.x series of VB adds a lot more load to the server. Im thinking of moving the database to another machine and slaving it.

This is pretty common with larger forums.

What model? I am sure it needs more hardware. Are the drives setup in a mirror configuration? I have several 10K and 15K drives sitting around from some IBM pulls. You could get cages and add them to whatever brand server you have. We would just have to make sure the speed and size are the same. Get me the model number and I will run through my parts bin to get something in the mail to you. Is it really running redhat like netcraft says it is? I also have a few hundred gigs of ddr2 and 3 sitting around. I'll see what it will take to max your server out. Let me know the model number and configuration of the drives. How large is the database? How much does it grow per year?

Jay bumped me to 10,000 for my donation to his MS150 ride. He said; "just don't tell Shane."

I've got a pile of SUN IPC, SPARC and ULTRA SPARC, and some Silicon Graphics stations (I’m keeping the Iris Indigo ‘cause it’s cool). Wire 'em all together and you'd have more computer than the whole world did 30 years ago.

Just let me know your shipping address.

The database is about a gig. Im pretty sure it doubled this year. This is with all the attachments moved out of the database as well.

This is a leased server. We cant just send them hardware. All of the upgrades have to be done through them. Id love to just build a badass server but colo hosting is way more expensive than leasing a server from them.

Thats unacceptable. The evolutionm forums are larger than this one yet I never have this problem. Works 100% of the time. I thought when I donated that money for your rollerblading, I was giving money to the "help save the Buick website" fund.

i own more then one car and anyway i can beat your one car with all of mine so keep your mouth shut pump boy:eek:

I like her, can we keep her Shane? LOL:biggrin: Gotta admire a girl that will kick back if she needs to.

The site has been fine for the last few days but I'm waiting for it to disappear again. The upgrade seems to be working but a slight increase in PMs would be a nice thing.

I made some more changes yesterday. Please keep me informed on how the site is running. Ill monitor this thread.

It seems to slow down in a weird mannor Jay. It will do a partial load and hang for a few minutes, then boom, it just blinks and loads super fast. Hope this helps you get some of the gremlins out of it.

Fix the disk I/O issue and bump up some memory and the problems will more than likely go away. The problem with backing off every configuration to gain performance is eventually upgrade paths will fail due to the inability of future versions to support the changes you have made. Really this site is running on a single 15K drive with OS as well. No wonder there may be complaints on performance. You need at least a three disk array with performance increasing the more drives you throw at it. This is just for the databases. The os and swap should be placed on other arrays. In a pinch, run the OS and swap on raid sata and db on raid sas drives. Not much cheaper but a little.

It sucks that you are leasing the equipment this way. I guess the provider has the lease as well?

It is hosted through the planet... Hardly any down time at all and they respond to problems in minutes 24/7! We have been down the road twice of having personal equipment like that in somebodies basement or wtf ever and that is not cool when something goes wrong:eek: Not to mention the chance of the of a single line going down somewhere as compared to the multiples at somewhere like the planet... Like I say we have weighed about both scenario's and this is the best fit for us. We can be any where any time and notice a problem and send an email and have it fixed...

Today I had a issue trying to view a PM from the homepage it kept giving me a error form the turbobuick server. Once into the message boards i could view it

Every couple of days mine doesnt recognise me and I have to sign with my pass word (thats annoying) , but the real problem for me is it is rediculiously slow!! It may take it a minute or more to move anywhere I click it to go. I get so fustrated at times I just shut the site down and go somewhere else!!
I dont seem to have any problems with the other sites I visit so Im not thinking its my computer?? Any thoughts?? Mike:frown:

Looks like due to the upgrade we are going to have to switch servers. Jay is specing us out one right now with a more VBB friendly hosting company and we are doubling the "power":cool:
