Hey folks! Quick question for you. I am financially ready to buy another piece for the TR. Review my signature below and give me your input / opinions on what I should get and why.

I think I have it narrowed down to either some injectors, throttle body, or maybe a larger turbo.

Thanks,
Heath

I don't see it in your signature but I am going to assume you have already done the fuel system upgrades.

You have good parts to go fast. The throttle body will do little to nothing for you at this stage (stock turbo). The stock turbo is your limiting factor. The question is how fast do you want to go? A "much" bigger turbo will need bigger injectors than what you have. You may need to do both depending upon your goals. Buy once (easy to say, hard to do - I know).

Yes, I do have the fuel pump upgrade with the hot wire. Perhaps some 60 high z injectors first? I try to mod things with a "get the foundation layed first perspective".

If I were to get a larger turbo, wouldn't I also have to get larger injectors to realize any benefits from it? I can not buy two things, just one right now.

Typically speaking a turbo is a good idea to upgrade because that is where all the power is. If you replace your turbo you will need to upgrade your injectors and chip as they all work together.
You really need to let us know what your overall goal is. Are you taking this car to the drag strip or do you want a street fighter? Whichever you want you still need to have an end goal in mind before deciding what to do next.

Yes and No. If you stay at stock boost levels your current injectors would work, however if you want to up the boost then yes you will need larger injectors.

You have alky injection on there thats supplying some of the fuel you would need. you should be able to go to 23 psi with the injectors you have and the alky. You could always raise you fuel pressure some too. A Turbo Tweak chip would do you a lot of good here.

For now I think I just want something that will support a larger turbo to be purchased sometime this year hopefully. I will go to the drag strip on occasion but just for fun. I have always leaned more towards a street machine. The most I really expect to do is in the mid 10's, down the road. Alas,I don't think the funds are going to be there to purchase a larger turbo, and injectors. The turbo will need to be replaced soon. It is still solid but it is an original from '87. It has been taken care of. Then when will I need to concider a cam? Hmmm...

I would get more head work before a cam.

If you do not have it...Next would be Scanmaster, Knock Gauge, Adjustable Fuel psi reg, Air filter.

Then Injectors(50), Turbo Tweak chip and Alky(razors). And even with the stock turbo...... you are gonna need some DR or slicks with the ability to run higher boost levels.

The stock turbo will work but the GT3255E is a bad mister all around and works great with the stock stall. And it made  40 more ftlbs than the TA49 on the dyno.

It might be good for you to post some scan tool numbers at WOT to show us how you are currently tuned....That may give the big guns some information to really focus on what needs to be done next. :)

I'd bet you could use a turbo next.... :)

GT3255 turbo.

Agreed!

That turbo GT3255e , bluetops, and julios meth will be a fast stop light to stop light action car. Even works great with the stock convertor.

Upgrading to larger injectors at this point will not make it go faster, the turbo definitely will.

At this point a cam is the last thing you need. It is not going to produce power like a turbo will.

A FMIC on a stock turbo  You are miss matching parts...Save your monies so you can do the rest at one time. Not knowing all your mods I'm going to ASSume, Larger turbo (TE44 or larger) 50 or 60lb injectors (depends on turbo), Extrender chip or TT chip..both are good... You said you what to go 10's..how deep into the 10's ?????

Sorry, a bit long.

I know that the front mount seems to be jumping the gun but here is my story. I have owned a 86-87 TR since 88. At that time I was a student and just stuck with the inexpensive mods. Mainly bracing the car, improving rear suspension, and freeing up the intake and exhaust. That first car was destroyed in '93 (not my fault). A couple of months later I found another TR and did the same thing to it. I was just keeping it kinda simple. I had to replace the t.c. and rebuild the trans in the late 90's so went with a build on the trans that was more than I thought I would ever need and a t.c. with the same mind set. From that point the TR was a pleasure vehicle. Driven once in a while. Well in Dec. of '05 that one was destroyed (don't let her drive it dumbass!). I starting looking for a rolling chassis. Found one that had a fmic and alky with. Brought it home. Slowly tinkered with it over the coarse of '06. The tax man was good to me and I was able to get some electronics for it, Tpro mainly and a deeper transpan.

Sorry for the novel, but right now I think I am going for some 60lb and after tax time and a few more side jobs I will be looking for a turbo. The cam won't come untill next year at the earliest.

The car is still sitting in the garage right now. Crappy weather and time constraints. Once I am able to make a couple runs down the road I will post some logs. I just got a Power Logger.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the advice.

Makes a lot more since now thank's for the update  You'll like the 60lbs..add a good chip at the same time you install them. You don't need to change the cam...next will be the turbo

Well this is what I have decided. I am going with the 60lb injectors. Put the order in one day to late to have the Extender Pro chip I ordered earlier config to them. Oh well. I will probably just keep them sitting in the box until tax time and hopefully purchase a turbo and then install both at the same time.

Thanks again for input.

You may need to have it re-burned after the turbo change because you will be picking up a lot of hp with the turbo when you do it. Plan on adding in a lot of duty cycle after the turbo upgrade. With your current mods you will only be at 35-40% duty cycle at peak torque with the 60's for your current combo.

You need to make it to the bowling green event in kentucky this may!

I have a front mount on my stock turbo car, it seems to run fairly decent, once you decide to get a turbo, bring this thread back up and we can surely help out.
