Hey guys im getting a stall for my car what do you guys recom?I have a losened D5 in it now so its about a 3000 stall. The car will be mostly driven on the street and maybe two trips to the track a year.I would also prefer a lockup, looking at my combo what would some of you recom?

More importantly get a 9" or 10" converter...will make a big difference.
At a guess I'd say shoot for 3200-3500 since you're on the street that much.
Give this guy a call:

http://www.bowlertransmission.com/

Ask for Mark. He'll need a bunch of info about the car but custom builds the converters for each individual application. I've used his converters and transmissions for years and they can't be beat for quality or price. Service is second to none.

If you're out west, Bruce at PTS is the man out that way...also builds top notch stuff.

A stock 12" (or is it 11"...I can't remember) converter will only stall to 2400 rpm without getting into negative fin angle. At this point you start to lose efficiency.

My opinion of what you should get.....

Bruce Toelle's 9/11. Get lots of stall, you'll love it. It's better than sex (well almost... :) ) and with his you also get lockup which you want for the street.

That does sound like a lot of stall for a D-5. What boost?

Most converter stalls are based on approx. 5 psi boost level it seems. I would have to assume yours should be more like 2500 at 5 psi. It may go to 3000 at higher boost, but that is not the # you should use to compare. If you are getting 3000 at 5psi, you got something wrong or really inefficient.

You should be fine with a true 3000 stall 9 or 10" converter. I ran the Vigilante 3000 stall on mine, awesome on street & great for racing. It went to 3600 easily under 15+ psi. Too much stall on the street & racing will heat things up & wear the motor more for no reason.

Judging by your signature, going to a new converter better suited for your combo should get you real close (if not into) the 10's. :)

What cam are you running?

Cam/stall are to each other as air flow/fuel flow are to each other.

This is why flow rates/turbo selection are keyed to injector sizing/fuel pump/fuel flow.

Cam sizing and stall speed are key to each other directly, however, as has been stated many many many times, it's the combination en toto that makes the power.

Pardon me for not wanting to make any assumptions on ones' signature.

I don't typically read sigs anyway... They are fequently not updated and if I wanted to know about your ride, I will ask you or visit a website instead of poring over a message with the new testament tacked on at the end of it.

Anyway, I'd recommend cam'ing up a little bit. I had good luck with a 224 Hyd. cam. Some people will tell you "that's too big, you can't run that on the street"...

Well, they could also tell you that the Pope is Baptist, but that doesn't make it so... Try it out, see what you think.. Run 3000-3200 stall, you'll go from light to light (or victim to victim) with a big grin on your face..
